Ford Acknowledged For Diversity
As the Ford Motor Company continues its battle with financial woes, it is good news for the company that it was recently named as one of the top five companies with outstanding diversity programs. The distinction was given to the company by the business publication and online company DiversityInc. This year marks the seventh straight year that Ford is recognized by the publication as one among the top 50 companies in the United States when it comes to diversity progress.
The companies chosen for the distinction by the magazine are described by Luke Visconti, the co-founder of the publication, saying that: These are companies that demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of diversity management and the differences in people. They are better prepared to compete globally and with our rapidly diversifying market. Joining Ford at the top five slots are the Bank of America, the Pepsi Bottling Group, the Coca-Cola Company, and AT&T.
This distinction is just one of the numerous awards that Ford has received in its long history in the industry and in the field of business. For the past several years, the company has received at least 200 awards in recognition of their support of diversity in the workplace. Although Fords diversity progress is being recognized just lately, the company maintained that they have been making progress in diversity in the workplace since 1913 when Henry Ford opened the companys door to African Americans. According to Tiffani Orange, the Diversity Manager for Ford of the Americas: By more than doubling the industry average of the era, thousands of African Americans and other minority populations joined the company. As a result, Henry Ford helped create a new middle class and establish Ford as one of the first American companies to reflect the growing diversity of the United States.
